Noteworthy Members

Alf Pollard AO

President of LTC from 1957 to 1975 - including arranging finance for building the clubhouse; President of Northern Suburbs Tennis Association from 1959 to 1963 - including arranging finance for building their clubhouse HQ at Wheatleigh St, Naremburn; Vice President of NSW Hardcourt Tennis Association from 1959 to 1963; Patron LTC 1983-2000; Keen Badge player from 1957 – 1970; Winner of 7 LTC Men's Doubles and Mixed Doubles Titles; Alf played regularly from 1954 until 2000.

Ian Pollard AM

Joined LTC in 1966 and is still playing regularly at the club; He was Captain of the Junior Davis Cup team, summer 1971 and the youngest member of the Davis Cup Squad in 1971; Ian was NSW Rhodes Scholar for 1972, NSW Hardcourt Open Men’s Singles Champion in 1975 and winner of a number of NSW Singles titles across different age groups; Ian was Captain of Oxford University Tennis in 1976 and a member of the Oxford-Cambridge Tennis Team tour of the USA in 1976; He represented Australia at World Student Games in 1977.

Rosemary Lluka (nee Lassig)

Rosemary was an Australian  breaststroke swimmer of the 1960s and won a silver medal in the 4×100-metre medley relay, at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome with Dawn Fraser and Jan Andrew and Marilyn Wilson, five seconds behind the winners, the USA; Rosemary later took up tennis at LTC and enjoyed many years of Wednesday Competition and Thursday Badge between 1985 and 2005.

Geoffrey Robertson AO QC

Joined LTC in 1963 and played regularly, including competition for LTC, until departing for Oxford University on a Rhodes Scholarship in 1969.

John Waddell AOM

John joined the LTC in 1958 and 64 years later is still playing regularly. John has won the LTC Men’s Singles, Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles Championships on numerous occasions. His name appears on our Championship Boards a total of 34 times.

Pam Hodgson

Our longest ever member was Pam Hodgson who joined as a teenager in 1945, won the Junior Girls’ Singles Championship in 1948 and 1949, played Badge, served on Committee for many years and was made a Life Member in 1979. Pam died in March 2021 after 76 years continued membership.

Ann Tulloh

Won World Over-40s Mixed Doubles with Alan Basford in 1985, was Runner-up in World Over-40s Ladies Doubles with Jill Emmerson 1985, won the Australian 50s Veterans Singles in 1991 and represented Australia in the Maria Bueno Cup in USA in 1994. Ann represented Australia in the Maureen Connolly Cup in Austria in 1996. Ann was honoured with Life membership of White City Tennis Club in 1998. She has been LTC Treasurer since 2010.
