Longueville Tennis Club History

Longueville Tennis Club (LTC), on the beautiful peninsula of Longueville, was built and has been faithfully managed by volunteer tennis enthusiasts for the past 100 years. Its history is a history of tennis and the changes over the years. LTC early Minutes of Meeting (LTC Minutes of Meetings, archived in the Lane Cove Library) reveal the foresight of its founders in establishing Longueville as a grass court club, making it possible for members to play interclub competition as well as social tennis. They also ensured the size of the courts to allow for later fencing between each court. The court surfaces have changed over the years, and have always been well maintained.

There are many who have given of their time and their expertise to make the Club what it is today. Some have served over 30 years on committee including Cliff England, Carl Wilson, Joan McGuigan, Alf Pollard, Alan Leask and Ross Speers.

Thank you to Christine Butters OAM, a Life member of the Longueville Tennis Club. Chris faithfully researched the history of the club and wrote the Centennial Booklet - “Longueville Tennis Club - A Brief History 1921-2022”, from which these history pages are derived.
